Society of Civil and Structural Engineers

The Society of Civil and Structural Engineers (SCSE) is the UC San Diego student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Structural Engineers Association of San Diego (SEAOSD). Our purpose is to supplement the engineering education of UCSD students, promote the personal and professional development of our members, and improve the community of which we are part through outreach and community service.

EVENTS

We hold professional, social, and community events throughout the year. From General Body Meetings with guest speakers to project site tours and hikes, our events allow our members to both prepare for their profession and enjoy their time as students. Major annual events include PSWS, SE Day, and Esperanza.

Project Teams

Our three project teams allow our members to gain valuable hands-on experience. Team members contribute in design, analysis, and construction phases, compete in regional and national conferences, and develop teamwork and project management skills.

OUTREACH

Our Seismic Outreach program gives members the opportunity to give back to the community. Students from local middle schools learn about earthquake science and engineering and build K’Nex towers which are tested on a shake table. The objective of the program is to develop students’ critical thinking and communication skills, and raise interest in engineering and college in general.
