WELCOME TO UC SAN DIEGO SCSE'S CONCRETE CANOE PROJECT
Concrete is, by all accounts, a relatively dense material. It is meant to sink in water, just as birds are meant to fly and pigs are meant to roll around in mud. This is a law of physics that, until recently, has not been questioned.
In that token, the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition defies all logic. This competition features different projects, generally from various universities scattered across America, allowing students to utilize engineering principles learned in the classroom and combine that knowledge with teamwork, intrapersonal, and project management skills in order to create a canoe out of concrete that not only floats on water, but agile and swift enough to be put to the test in various races of maneuverability and speed. The top three teams of the competition, judged on both performance and aesthetics, earn scholarships to further contribute to their school.
The UC San Diego chapter of Concrete Canoe is vying for one of those spots. We are relatively new to the competition, but we have consistently improved over the years (see Team History tab) and are ready to break out of the divisional competition. We hope that this year, the team will rise to never-before-seen heights and achieve great success.
